How to Identify the Most Lucrative Jobs in New Zealand

As per an employment trends report by New Zealand’s leading online job portal, the average advertised salary for jobs all across the country in the third quarter of 2019 has risen to $81,101 – 3.3% higher than the figure in the third quarter of 2018. There is also a small increase (0.9%) in the total number of advertised jobs in New Zealand, implying that employers are looking to hire qualified workers for a variety of positions.

Many of these jobs are facing skills shortages in local labor markets, and can be occupied by highly eligible foreign workers. However, it is essential to check if the desired job is actually in-demand in the country. If so, workers must verify if they have the required skills and qualifications to practice that occupation in New Zealand.

Subsequently, the job seeker must understand if their field of work offers a sufficient income to cover the cost of living, and then check which areas in the country offer the highest salaries and greatest scope for professional growth. Finally, they can contact prospective employers, or gain access to an exclusive range of international employers by registering with an international recruitment agency – which can also assist in securing a New Zealand Work Visa for Indian nationals.

According to the report, Wellington and Auckland are prime locations, offering the highest average annual salaries across New Zealand – $89,309 and $82,628 respectively. The West Coast region saw the sharpest jump (9.7%) in average salaries offered – to $78,420, followed by Northland, where average salaries rose by 9%, to $72,701. The Marlborough region, which had the highest year-on-year job creation rate (17.4%), also recorded the lowest average salaries ($68,933).

Job opportunities in foreign countries like New Zealand can consistently yield higher returns, owing to the year-on-year rise in salaries offered in a diverse range of industries. In the third quarter of 2019, the agriculture sector witnessed the highest rise in average salaries offered – by 8%, to $74,101 – followed by the Community services sector (6.8%, to $67,875), which also had the greatest increase in the number of jobs on offer.

Average salaries in consulting and strategy, as well as the transport, logistics and manufacturing sector, grew by 5.9% – to $104,995 and $70,414 respectively. In the retail and consumer products sector, average salaries increased by 5.2%, to $55,696. Jobs advertised in the community services and development sector rose by 31.4% compared to 2018 figures. Jobs in defense and government grew by 18.2%, in training and education by 17.8%, and communications and marketing by 15.6%.

Pursuing jobs in New Zealand has significant advantages. The high quality of life, healthy work environment, rewarding employment benefits, and opportunities for career advancement are extremely attractive factors for overseas professionals. Ultimately, it is the ability to identify the most lucrative opportunities that impacts success in the job search and visa application process.
